10 דברים שלא ידעתם על גרמניה

היי חברים, long time no see!
אז היה שבוע קצת מטורף.. התחלנו ללמוד והלו"ז נהיה קצת צפוף.
אבל לא ישבתי רגל על רגל בזמן הזה! בזמן הזה אספתי עובדות ש(אולי) לא ידעתם על גרמניה, דברים שלי אישית גרמו לשוק תרבות קל.

1. מחזור. אז בגרמניה אין מצב שתזרוק את הזבל לפח אחד. כל זריקה של זבל צריכה להיות תכנית מחושבת ומתוכננת, בה צריך להבין היטב ממה מורכב הזבל שלך ולחלק אותו בהתאם. רק אצלי בקומה במעונות יש לפחות 7 סוגי שונים של זבל (7!!) ואפילו פחי רחוב מחולקים לפחות לשלושה סוגים.

2. נימוס. הנימוס האירופאי הוא רמה אחת מעל למה שאני מכירה (ודווקא החשבתי את עצמי לאדם מנומס למדי..). אם בישראל חולפים על פני אדם ברחוב או מצטרפים אליו למעלית ומתעלמים בנימוס, פה אתה מצופה להגיד Hallo (שלום), Tschüss (ביי), Guten tag (יום טוב) וכדומה. מעליות מעולם לא היו מביכות יותר.

3. שואה. שמתי לב לנטייה של גרמנים להתחמק מאזכורים של השואה. למשל כשהיינו במוזיאון אומנות המדריכה סיפרה לנו על צייר שאסרו על פרסום ציורים שלו בזמן תקופת ה-National Party, תוך שהיא מעיפה מבטים חוששים לכיווני. לקח לי רגע להבין למה היא התכוונה. משיחה עם חברה מאוסטריה, הבנתי שהשואה היא כתם בל יימחה עבור הגרמנים, דבר שגורם להם לחשוש להראות גאווה לאומית (בניגוד לשאר מדינות אירופה).

4. מוטיבים ערביים. הידעתם שכ-3 מליון מאזרחי גרמניה הם ממוצא טורקי? הם מהווים את אכלוס הטורקים השני הכי גדול בעולם מיד אחרי טורקיה. ואפשר להרגיש איך זה מתבטא בתרבות. אם זה מסעדות ה-kebap (או בשפתנו - שווארמה) שיש בכל פינה, אם זה הדגלים המתנוססים פה ושם מהבתים, אם זה הקוסקוס והפלאפל בסופר. בשבילי זה רסיסים קטנים של בית (:

5. דפיקה על שולחנות. מאוד צפוי לשמוע בסוף הרצאות דפיקות נמרצות על שולחנות. בהתחלה חשבתי שפספסתי משהו ושכולם עושים "טפו טפו טפו", אבל מסתבר שזו דרך מקובלת בגרמניה "למחוא כפיים" למרצה בסוף הרצאה.

6. לוח עם גיר. אנחנו נוטים להסתכל על גרמניה כמדינה מתקדמת וחדשנית. כזו עם אורח חיים טוב יותר ומילקי זול יותר. אבל האמת שבחינוך הגרמנים נתקעו קצת מאחור. הייתי בהלם למצוא לוח עם גיר בכל כיתה באוניברסיטה. לא ראיתי לוח עם גיר מאז הבית ספר היסודי! משיחה עם כמה מרצים מסתבר שגם בבתי הספר הגרמנים אוהבים ללמד בדרך "המסורתית". כשניהלנו דיון כיצד לעניין תלמידי יסודי בשיעורי אנגלית לא עלתה המילה "טכנולוגיה" אפילו פעם אחת.
טוב או רע? מה דעתכם?

7. דיבוב. מכה מוכרת בהרבה מדינות באירופה (אבל גיליתי שלא בכולן). הגרמנים פשוט לא אוהבים לראות סדרות או סרטים בשפת המקור שלהם, הם חייבים לשמוע את שפתם הערבה לאוזן. החלק הכי גרוע הוא כשמשאירים את הסאונד המקורי בצורה מוחלשת וחוזרים על הדברים בגרמנית שנייה אחרי. התאוריה שלי היא שרמת האנגלית של הגרמנים תזנק אם הם יתנו הזדמנות לסרטים להיות באנגלית - just saying.

8. השתתפות בשיעור. גרמנים לא אוהבים להשתתף. גם כשהמרצים מתחננים. גם כשהם שואלים שאלות ברורות מאליהן. אז איכשהו יוצא מצב שאני הופכת להרמיוני בכל כיתה - אבל באמת שלא באשמתי! מישהו צריך לענות למרצה המסכן.

9. טלפונים ואינטרנט. מצאתי את הדבר היחיד שיותר יקר בגרמניה מישראל - חבילות גלישה. אם אצלנו משלמים 20 שקל בחודש על אינטרנט לא נגמר, פה את מקבל 1G בקושי ומשלם פי 3. ומצד שני, לא רואים אנשים תקועים בפייסבוק כל היום. הגמילה מתחילה פה!

10. בירה יותר זולה ממים. זו לא סטיגמה, זה נכון. איתרע מזלנו להיות פה בזמן פסטיבל בירה מפורסם בשטוטגארט (לא מפורסם כמו האוקטוברפסט, אבל הבנתי שהוא השני בגודלו בגרמניה). ולמרות שאני לא מעריצה גדולה של בירה, לראות את הגרמנים לבושים בתלבושות המסורתיות שלהם זו חוויה מעניינת. למה לנו אין תלבושות מסורתיות??

יש מצב שזה מפרסומת של מולר..

על התחלות חדשות ונפלאות מגבת המטבח

ביומיים הראשונים רציתי לחזור הביתה.
אני בטוחה שכולם מכירים את ההרגשה. אתה עולה על רכבת הרים שכמובן מתחילה בעליה איטית להחריד.
אתה מסתכל למטה ואומר לעצמך "אלוהים למה עשיתי את זה לעצמי".
אבל אתה כבר על הרכבת - שמזדחלת באיטיות לעבר הנפילה הבלתי נמנעת. ואז ברגע שהרכבת צוברת תאוצה - אתה שוכח מהכל ופשוט נהנה.
התחלות חדשות הן בדיוק ככה עבורי.

היום הראשון היה כמו חלום בלהות. כעבור טיסה של כמה שעות ועצירה בטורקיה, הגענו ומצאנו מערכת רכבות מורכבת להפליא.
כאשר סוף סוף הצלחנו להגיע בשעות הערב וליצור קשר עם המדריכה שלנו, גילינו שלמחרת יש חג ושאנחנו חייבות לקנות אוכל כבר באותו רגע. הלומות קרב התנדנדנו לעבר הסופרמרקט, שם גילינו שגרמנים לא מאמינים בתמחור מוצרים או בשקיות ניילון.

ביום השני גיליתי דבר איום ונורא - לא הבאתי מגבת. קשה להסביר את גודל התסכול שחשבתי באותו רגע, אבל בלת"מים קורים וצריך להסתדר עם מה שיש.......
תופתעו כמה טוב מגבת מטבח עושה את העבודה.

עבר שבוע מאז ודברים כבר מתחילים להסתדר. קניתי לפחות שלוש מגבות, הכרנו המון אנשים מארצות שונות ותרבויות שונות ויצרנו לנו מאין משפחה מאולתרת. לקח לי שבוע להתאפס אבל מבטיחה לעדכן יותר מעכשיו!

Week 10

This week we were asked to write about a research tool we liked.

I personally find the "simple English Wikipedia" very useful!

I'm sure most of you have encountered this problem: your students are asked to read something, and it's really hard to match between their level of English and their interests.

I am encountering this problem as a book seller all the time; students from junior high are looking for an interesting book for their book report, but their English level isn't good enough for reading teens' books. The only books they can read have really childish content.

While I can't find a solution for the "book report dilemma", the easy Wikipedia offers a great solution for a similar problem – finding approachable and manageable academic content for struggling students.

Week 6

I highly believe that speaking and writing skills are important. At the end of the day, these are the skills our students will use to communicate.

A lot of interesting tools were presented (I will definitely use some of them in the future!) I will present a few.

1. Eduplace spelling game

This site provides a fun, colorful flash game that helps the students learn about spelling. You can choose your level, and try different units(each has a different activity).

I think it's a great way to teach spelling since it actually feels like a game, and not like a learning tool.

2. Story maker

This is a fun and cute little app that allows you to create your own story (you can even choose the type of story!). The learner chooses the name of the characters, and some other aspects in the story, and it really gives the feeling that you create your own story. I think the best way to learn a language is through stories, and the cute animation and dynamic feeling makes the learning even more effective.

3. SMS generator

This is an app that allows "creating" of SMS conversation. I think this activity can really relate to the students, who pass most of their day with their face stuck in a screen. This can also work on their communication skill and allow them to create a made up conversation. This conversation may contain new vocabulary, several grammatical structures, and overall be fun and excited to the students.

4. Fodey's Newspaper generator

This site offers a wide range of text "designs", one of them is an old fashioned newspaper. I think this is a great tool that can help students actually experience different types of writing styles (for example, a newspaper writing style will be different than a commercial writing style), and the site makes it look authentic by giving it the designed touch. Who wouldn't want to be a famous reporter??

5. Student publishing

In addition to what I wrote on top, who wouldn't want to be a famous writer??

This site allows you to create and print your own book. When I am thinking about teaching writing skills, I think the students will be very excited if there would be an actual product in the end. This can be a yearly project, in which the teacher teaches the fundamentals of storytelling, and at the end of the year a book will be printed with all the stories that the students will have written (The students would design it as well, obviously).

Week 4

Hi again!

It's been a long week.. I hope everyone is safe after all the fires and the mess this weekend.

I am praying for rain to take away this horrible horrible weather.

And on a more positive note, I would like to refer to the "Linguistics Landscape" term.

according to this term, we are surrounded by visual language in our sight all the time (like in commercials, signs etc.).

When I first decided to be an English teacher I was searching for some sort of agenda: what should I say to my students to encourage them? what made English studying so easy for me?

And than I realized - the reason English was so easy for me was because I was surrounded by it. English is all around us. If it's the TV, the computer (Internet, computer games, chatting with people from abroad) even some of our terminology is affected by English (every child knows that a director shouts "CUT!!" and what it means) and so on.

Therefore, one thing I would like to stress to my students is that "English is all around us", and all you have to do is open your eyes and pay attention.

week 3

I just found out that all my Google+ friends get notify about my blog posts. AWKWARD.

that's the trouble with today's modern technology.. everything is connected.

so yesterday I went to a "field trip" to gifted children (as in Mechunanim) and I was really impressed by their creative way of teaching.

This, combined with all the cool tools presented to us in the week 3 section, has made me think that I want to be a fun creative teacher.

(3 years from now I can see myself standing in front of a class of 40 and losing my mind - good luck with that!)

In 2 weeks I'm supposed to present my first lesson ever and i'm terrified. perhaps I should use one of this fun tools and the kids will like my lesson? :) 

(and hopefully the pedagogical instructor as well!)

Week 2

Well, It's actually week 3 already, I am really trying to keep up and not to drown in the homework load :)

Iv'e been reading several Blogs and have encountered an important article regarding a controversial issue - using of laptops in classrooms. (you can find this article in Edudemic's blog.)

recently I have started my "Itnasut" in Rotberg High-school and encountered several kids using laptops during class. I thought it was odd, how can the teacher know whether they are participating in the class or, in fact, using facebook and chatting?

this Blog is trying to discuss the Pros and Cons of this method.

Pros - empowerment of students, a more personalized education that will allow students to learn at their own pace.

Cons - Limitation in the technology the school has\can afford. some say that technology is in fact a distraction.

I personally think that computer might be an effective tool, it can also provide cheap textbook and access to information. BUT some contents (like facebook, Instagram etc) must be banned. 

perhaps the students can be given restricted laptops.
